On March 27, 1909, 37-year-old Mrs. Carrie Pearson died in Chicago from an abortion perpetrated by midwife Caroline Meyer. Meyer was held by the coroner but the trial ended in a hung jury.
During the trial for Carrie's death, Meyer was also under indictment for causing the death of Mrs. Nellie O'Neill.
